How My Passion and Creativity Found their Expression
From a young age, I had an innate tendency to create. I liked making things, taking something insignificant, and giving it a new purpose. Creating for me has always been joy, laughter, and pleasure. This tendency of mine was further cultivated during the summer holidays that my family and I went on.
I remember picking up pebbles and shells with my dad from the beautiful beaches of the Cyclades. In these islands, I did my experiments and unlocked my artistic potential on handmade jewelry.
My First Steps as an Artist
However, the event that helped me decide that handcraft is the purpose of my life took place in Kythira. The beginning may have been insignificant, but it was the first and most decisive step of my career in handmade jewelry.
So, during our stay there we visited a small tourist shop. Excited about my creations and determined to sell them, I hesitantly entered it. I felt confident and an indescribable sense of self-confidence, even though I was only 10 years old. I proudly showed them to the lady of the shop, waiting for her answer.
“I will buy them,” she informed me, “even though I have my suppliers. But I admire your talent and courage.”
— This small beginning was the first step to take my creations seriously.
The Beginning of Kaliniki Handcraft
Thus, the years passed and I continued to enrich my skills in handmade jewelry. When I was a university student, I had the idea to collect shells from the sea to decorate my plastic flip-flops. At that time, it dawned on me that I could do the same with leather sandals. I started getting quality sandals and decorating them with beautiful ribbons and beads. I even made shoes for brides.
Soon after this, it was time to show my handmade jewelry to more people. For this reason, I took part in an exhibition organized by amateur creators. There, I prepared my stall with necklaces, bracelets, New Year's charms, and little wooden boats. That was the first time the big bang happened. All the guests talked about my own stall and the tasteful and original things I had prepared.
The Present of “Kaliniki Handcraft”
So, starting from scratch and up until today, my great endeavor in handicrafts has been realized. Following the constant changes imposed by fashion, “Kaliniki” creates jewelry for all hours of the day, as well as any occasion. We always use materials of the highest quality and durability, such as steel and plating. Our emphasis is to highlight the personality of every woman, and so we compose unique jewelry that exudes elegance.
Apart from our handmade jewelry, we also create collections with seasonal items. Our Christmas charms are a combination of luxury velvet, natural wood, plexiglass, and metal. Our summer sandals are made of high quality leather, hand-decorated with shells, lace, Swarovski stones, rhinestones, and iridescent beads. Moreover, we have designed a special collection for brides that includes everything a woman needs to make her dream wedding day a reality.
